Spring 2020
Throughout Quarter 4, students will be observing and investigating the relationships between plants, animals, and their habitats. They will be working collaboratively to plan an investigation to provide evidence that plants need water and light to survive. In addition, students will work together to design a model pollinator.

Second graders learn about erosion
Students use their understanding of the effects of fast and slow changes on the Earth to discuss erosion. Students working together to discover the effects of water erosion in the form of light rain, heavy rain, and flooding. Teams work together to design creations to invent a method to prevent erosion.

Jan2019--Recycle helpers-
Second grade recycling helper empties our tidy tubs into the recycling bin. We use tidy tubs to collect scraps of paper at each table when we are cutting so we can properly recycle them. It is a classroom job to pass out the tidy tubs then collect them and empty them into the recycling bin.

Read across america day- the lorax- march 2, 2016
On Read Across America Day, our theme was The Lorax. We learned that it is important for all of us to take care of our environment. The Lorax (Our principal, Jason McCoy) visited every class. Our community partners, The Park Rangers, came in and read to all our students. We read, wrote, and discovered ways we could help the world. Students learned that we need our trees for oxygen, shade and habitats for animals. Students were given up-cycled crayons made from our old crayons.
Second GRADERS AT THE MOBILE PLANETARIUM
Instead of students taking buses to the Planetarium, we brought the Mobile Planetarium to us on December 17, 2015. We want our students to know how important our planet is and how important it is to take care of our planet. Our planet is just one piece of our solar system and we encourage students to think of our global environment as precious now and in our future. We are challenging ourselves to rediscover the Earth’s beauty and the importance of the global environment.
THe Zoo mobile comes to our second graders
The zoo mobile comes and explains about habitats and life of many insects and animals.
The Best of Bugs: Designing a Hand Pollinator
Second graders became engineers, they designed and created hand pollinators and learned the importance of insects in our world.
Butterfly unit
Second graders learned about butterflies and the Butterfly Life Cycle as part of their NGSS curriculum. The students fed caterpillars and observed the caterpillars’ lives as they grew and became chrysalis. After the caterpillars became butterflies, the students released them outside.
