*CRES gets own Vegetable Garden
Earth Day April 22, 2021
Through a grant provided by Urban Agriculture, Cradlerock is home to a raised bed vegetable garden. The garden is located just beyond our playsets and the Judy Center, and consists of two large rectangular beds.
Mr. David Plummer and the Howard County Master Gardeners worked with our in-person students to plant vegetable seeds in the garden, as well as talk to with the students about gardens, soil and nutrients, the vegetables we will have in our garden, how to care for them and a variety of other topics. All students who are in school on Earth Day participated in creating our garden in some small way.
The start of the garden was funded by an Urban Agriculture Grant obtained by the Howard County Soil Conservation District. The Soil Conservation District funded and built the beds, as well as sponsored/hosted the Earth Day event 2021. They introduced us to Erica Jones and some other Master Gardeners, who have taken ownership of checking on the garden, and hosting Master Gardener talks throughout the summer.

*** We have become a school THat is committed to Reduce, reuse and recycle since 2014
RecyCleCRES is recycling!
We recycle at CRES! We recycling paper and plastic every day. We have class jobs and everyone is aware of the importance of reducing, reuse and recycling. CRES is working with Terracycle in collecting juice pouches to recycle. All grades in the school participate in collecting pouches. Students make sure that the juice is emptied and straws are taken out. We recycled markers. The markers are collected each day, and are sent away at the end of each year. Great job everyone! Our second graders recycle crayons by melting them down and making them into new shapes to sell at our school stores. Students can purchase the up-cycled crayons with paw prints they have earned. |
ReduceCRES is reducing our energy use.
I CRES students created signs in the bathrooms to help reduce amount of water we waste. Students drew signs that reminded us to turn off lights when not in use. Reuse |

At Cradlerock celebrates Green/Earth Day in April each year. We cleaned up the entire school grounds. All students in PreK- 5 participated in special green lessons/projects. Students get to take these special projects home to help make our community a little more beautiful. We clean up our gardens with the help of parent and student volunteers. Our students take charge of recycling, turning lights out, making posters, making announcements on ROCK TV and help with our Green News bulletin board.
