4th graders continued learning about the environment. They learned about the ecosystem. They learned about why recycling and taking care of the earth is important. They went to the Living Farm Heritage Museum in West Friendship MD.

Saturday 9/11/2021 Erica Jones, (Master Gardener and a huge champion for our project who has been volunteering to support us since the garden started) is coming to do fall maintenance on the garden. She is using it as a training opportunity for others in her group.

Earth Day april 22, 2021
Students celebrated our Earth. We planted a garden and learned how to take care of our soil. We worked on Earth Day activities in many classes.
Healthy School environment lessons in grade 4

Students learn what information can be obtained and combined to describe how humans get energy from natural resources.They learn the positive and negative effects, on the environment, of obtaining energy from natural resources.

Students learn the importance of horseshoe crabs in our bay. Ms. Price came in and shared how antibiotics are tested using the blood from a horseshoe crab. 2-2020

Howard County Watershed - Horseshoe Crabs 2/2018
Mrs. Mary Price came and taught 4th graders about the importance of the horseshoe crab in our bays. Students were able to see a model, and participate in activities to learn about the Shorebird connection, food and medical uses. We learned that we must protect these important creatures and not over harvest them.
4th graders go on field trip-Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center
Students get hands on experience at the Chesapeake Bay center. They learned about pollution, testing water and making buoys. Restoration of habitat. (5/2017)

4th graders use different apps to promote recycling
Fourth graders collaborated using Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Drawing, Pixie and Quick Time during their technology classes. Their objective was to select an application and work collaboratively create a recycling commerical or poster for other students to learn about recycling.
Read across america day-the Lorax- march 2, 2016
On Read Across America Day, our theme was The Lorax. We learned that it is important for all of us to take care of our environment. The Lorax (Our principal, Jason McCoy) visited every class. Our community partners, The Park Rangers, came in and read to all our students. We read, wrote, and discovered ways we could help the world. Students learned that we need our trees for oxygen, shade and habitats for animals. Students were given up-cycled crayons made from our old crayons.
Energy Lesson
Students researched conversion of energy & energy from Natural Resources within two Science lessons. What design most effectively allows energy, transferred through electrical currents, to be converted into a form useful to humans? What are pros/neg. effects on the environment of obtaining energy from natural resources?
Fourth GRADERS AT THE MOBILE PLANETARIUM
Instead of students taking buses to the Planetarium, we brought the Mobile Planetarium to us on December 17, 2015. We want our students to know how important our planet is and how important it is to take care of our planet. Our planet is just one piece of our solar system and we encourage students to think of our global environment as precious now and in our future. We are challenging ourselves to rediscover the Earth’s beauty and the importance of the global environment.
North American Youth in Generation in Nuclear-- visited our 4th and 5th graders.
On Thursday October 8, 2015 Mr. Jason Mantzouranis (from the North American Youth in Generation in Nuclear NAYGN, http://naygn.org/) came to share information about nuclear energy. He taught about nuclear energy and the importance of energy density. He explained that nuclear energy is one way to create electricity. CRES students participated in the NAYGN drawing contest.
